LOCKDOWNS UP is an eight minute video essay, a musing around the optimistic
stock projections announced to wall street stock analysts by the private
prison industry, amidst speculation around interment camps for Arab Americans.
Issues touched upon are: the War on Terrorism and the Patriot Act, the
criminalization of immigrants and the booming of INS powers and budgets,
the "bailout" of the private prison industry by the Federal Bureau of Prisons,
and the institutional incentives toward further incarceration. The video
is a good way to begin a conversation over what forces might be at work
in shaping the War on Terror other than pure public safety.
